The Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC) is participating at BIT – International Tourism Exchange in Milan, Italy from 09-11th February 2020. Twenty-three representatives from 11 Maldives tourism industry companies are participating along with MMPRC to promote the destination. An event organized by Fiera Milano, BIT has brought tourists and travelers from all over the world to Milan since 1980. The first day of the fair is dedicated to both travel trade & consumer and the last two days are for the travel trade.
There were 43,000 visitors recorded at BIT 2019, including 1,300 exhibitors, 1,900 press operators, 1,500 top Italian and international profiled buyers from 67 different countries and 141 conference and seminars are held. During this three-day event, officials will be meeting with industry professionals during the fair to explore means to further develop and strengthen the presence of the Maldives in the Italian Market.
Maldives stand is built in a 74 sqm space located on the first floor of the World Pavillion, Pavillion 4, in stand number C101. It displays various aspects of the destination through colorful images that represent the segments most preferred by the Italian travellers. In order to attract more visitors to the stand, several activities will be carried at the stand which includes visitors posting a photo with hashtag #VisitMaldives and standing chance to win exciting prizes. Additional activities at the Maldives stand include a chance to win a free holiday to Dhigufaru Island Resort by raffle taken among the visitors to Maldives stand during the fair. Moreover, visitors can also get a chance to wear Maldivian traditional dress and learn about the Maldives culture.
Italy is one of the top and important market for the Maldives. A total of 136,343 tourists arrived from Italy to Maldives in 2019 which is an increase of 29.5% compared to 2018. Participating in BIT will help achieve the targets that have been set for this market and several initiatives will be taken by MMPRC to further increase the destination presence in Italy in the year 2020.
