Maldivian, the national airline of the Maldives, has appointed MEGACAP Aviation Services Ltd as its General Sales Agent (GSA) for China, as part of its efforts to strengthen connectivity between the two markets.
China remains a key source market for the Maldives. Visitor arrivals from China reached 329,110, representing a 25 per cent increase compared to the previous year and accounting for 14.6 per cent of total arrivals. This trend has continued into 2026, with 86,464 Chinese visitors recorded by mid-March, making up 15.6 per cent of overall arrivals.
Maldivian currently operates weekly flights between Malé and destinations in China using its Airbus A330-200 aircraft. The routes, introduced in January 2025, form part of the airline’s ongoing operations in the Chinese market and are intended to support travel demand between the two countries.
The appointment of MEGACAP Aviation Services is expected to support the airline’s engagement with travel trade partners and tour operators in China, as well as improve market reach.
Maldivian also operates an extensive domestic network within the Maldives, providing connections from Velana International Airport to resorts and inhabited islands across the country.
Ibrahim Iyas, Managing Director of Maldivian, said the appointment reflects the airline’s continued focus on the Chinese market and its intention to strengthen partnerships within the sector.
