Sun Siyam has achieved a significant milestone in its commitment to youth development and skills training with the graduation of the first cohort of the Sun Siyam Apprenticeship Programme, held at Siyam World Maldives. The ceremony celebrated the successful completion of the programme by eight apprentices, representing a diverse range of operational disciplines across the resort. Graduates included two from Culinary, three from Engineering, and one each from Finance, Information Technology, and Dive and Recreation, highlighting the breadth of career pathways supported by the initiative.
The event was attended by representatives from the Ministry of Higher Education, including two ministry officials, emphasizing the importance of collaboration between the public and private sectors in creating sustainable employment opportunities for Maldivian youth. The ceremony featured keynote addresses by State Minister Fathimath Mohamed and Siyam World Resort Manager Ausy Waseem, both of whom underscored the value of practical learning, mentorship, and long-term career development within the hospitality industry.
Launched in July 2025 in collaboration with the Ministry of Higher Education through the SAILS Project—a World Bank-funded initiative aimed at strengthening skills development and youth employability in the Maldives—the Sun Siyam Apprenticeship Programme commenced at Siyam World Maldives on 1 July 2025. It is a structured six-month apprenticeship designed to combine hands-on training with professional mentorship and real-world operational exposure.
During the programme, apprentices gained on-the-job experience across key resort departments, supported by senior team members and guided by structured learning objectives aligned with national certification standards and Sun Siyam Resorts’ service philosophy.
At the graduation ceremony, Resort Manager Ausy Waseem noted that the programme is “more than just training. It provides young Maldivians with the confidence to believe in themselves, the skills to thrive in the industry, and the courage to envision bigger futures. Sun Siyam is proud to contribute to their growth, achievements, and to shaping the future of Maldivian tourism.”
This graduation builds on the Apprenticeship Programme first announced in 2025, reaffirming Sun Siyam’s long-term commitment to people development and purposeful growth. While the programme operates as a standalone initiative, it reflects the values that underpin the Group’s broader approach to talent, opportunity, and responsibility. Complementing the Sun Siyam Care framework—which focuses on sustainability, environmental protection, and ethical tourism—the Apprenticeship Programme further demonstrates the Group’s dedication to investing in the future of the Maldives through education, skills development, and meaningful career pathways for local youth.
As the programme continues to evolve, Sun Siyam Resorts remains committed to creating opportunities, cultivating talent, and sharing knowledge, ensuring that the next generation of hospitality professionals are not only inspired but empowered.
